How to explore a new place, when you don’t have enough time

Time is the most precious resource and we often don’t have enough of it. During our busy everyday life, we often happen to be in interesting new places. However, often we don’t have enough time to explore properly. Just a few examples: period between connecting flights, short free time after a busy working day during business trip, temporary stop in a small town on the way to a chosen destination by car.

Yet – how to satisfy our spirit for exploration? See below few tips from us:

Do a preliminary sight-seeing research

It is a useful to obtain a travel guide of the respective place and to map down the places you would like to see. If you don’t have time for such preparation, take advantage of the tourist maps. Such are often available for free in most hotels. Using such map, you will be able to navigate fast and decide what to see in proximity to your place.

Buy a daily subway ticket

It is not a surprise that the subway is the fastest means of transportation in each big and busy city. Obtaining a daily ticket will save you time and money. It will allow you to see places within the city limits, that are distant from one another.

Use sightseeing bus tours

Hop-on, Hop-off touristic buses are a very good option for exploring a city, without sweating to cover great distances on foot. Usually you can buy a ticket for a full day and the good this is that these buses cover majority of interesting sights. As the name suggests, you can take the bus or descend it at any time wherever you like. It is a common practice these buses to be equipped with multi-lingual audio-guides. This way you can gain additional info regarding the sights. We strongly recommend using Hop-on, Hop-off, if you plan to visit and explore Budapest.

Reach a high view-point

This is something that we do in every time we visit a new place. The view from the top of a cathedral, skyscraper or a hill will enhance your perception regarding the real scale of the city and will help you figure out better where the sight you want to visit are located. Last but not least, from such a high view point you can take great panoramic pictures. Choosing a high point is suitable also in case you get lot – you will be able to locate easily in which direction you should move.

Trust and follow the local people

If you are wondering where to eat, notice where local people are doing it. A busy restaurant or fast-food stall aside of the regular well-known tourist routes, will most probably offer you great value-for-money. “When you are in Rome, do like Romans do” 🙂

Buy in advance tickets for the desired sights

Buying tickets online is strongly advisable, as it will spare you the queuing time. If you still do not manage do to buy upfront, we advise you to focus on sights with free entrance – these usually are cathedrals, parks, monuments, even museums in certain days of the month.

Enjoy what you are able to see and do a list for the next visit 🙂

Very often it is impossible to see in just a few hours or a day everything that we would like to. We think that it is not the number of sight seen that is important, but rather for how long the impressions last in us and make us go back to that place. We have returned to a lot of places and we have rediscovered them – every time we have seen something new and exciting. Do it too!
